Differentials: Circular field:

A circular field has a radius of 300ft, with a possible error of 0.5 ft. Use differentials to approximate the maximum error in the circumference, C, and area, A.

We can use the definition of differentials and the relationship between the radius and the other two quantities:

  1. circumference in terms of radius, so that error estimate of the circumference from the error estimate of radius
  2. area of circle in terms of radius

error estimate of the area from the error estimate of radius
